  • Leslie Boney III, vice president of international, community and economic engagement for the University of North Carolina system, has been named director of the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI), effective January 1, 2017. Boney will replace IEI interim director Richard Mahoney, who will return full-time to his position as director of the School of Public and International Affairs.
  • On October 11, NC State held its 27th Celebration of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to recognize the outstanding achievements of its faculty inventors over the last year. In addition to honoring inventors that received a patent or launched a startup company in 2016, Chancellor Randy Woodson presented the Innovator of the Year and Dr. John S. Risley Entrepreneur of the Year awards to Dr. Michael Escuti and Dr. Rodolphe Barrangou, respectively. See the full list of honorees at http://bit.ly/2dKhXxr.
  • Congratulations to 3-Minute Thesis winner Gilbert Castillo! Castillo, a graduate student in chemical engineering, discussed turning water bottles into cell phone screens to take home the top prize.
  • David Hill is the interim head of the School of Architecture in the College of Design.
  • Dr. Linda McCabe Smith, vice provost for institutional equity and diversity, issued a message to the campus community about excellence through diversity at NC State.   • Think and Do the Extraordinary: The Campaign for NC State officially launched October 28. The campaign is the most ambitious fundraising effort in the history of NC State, with a goal of $1.6 billion in private support from the university’s remarkable alumni and friends.   • The Office of State Human Resources authorized the UNC System to grant up to 80 hours of “Other Management Approved Leave” to assist state employees in handling the loss or substantial damage to their principal place of residence as a direct result of Hurricane Matthew. These 80 hours of paid leave can be used by state employees to cover time off in handling any loss or substantial damage to their principal place of residence. A form should be used to request this leave. The deadline to submit the form to the HR Benefits Office is December 31. Questions may be directed to the HR Benefits/Leave Administration Team by calling 919-515-2151 (press 2) or email to hrsbenefits@ncsu.edu.

  • Applications are now being accepted for the 2016-2017 OIED Faculty Diversity Liaison Program.
