NC State has been recognized as one of the universities with the highest number of faculty selected for the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recently made the announcement.
“NC State’s recognition as a top Fulbright-producing institution demonstrates its strong dedication to global exchange and the creation of enduring relationships between people in the U.S. and other nations,” said Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden. “The university’s work with Fulbright scholars cultivates a community of global citizens ready to contribute significantly both locally and internationally.”
Seven faculty members from NC State were selected as Fulbright Scholars for the 2024-25 academic year. They are:
- Jia Hou, associate professor, Department of Nuclear Engineering
- Lauren Brooks, associate teaching professor, Department of World Languages and Literatures
- Diane Chapman, executive director and associate vice provost for faculty development, Office for Faculty Excellence
- Adriana San Miguel Delgadillo, associate professor, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
- Intae Yoon, associate professor, School of Social Work
- Sarah Bowen, associate dean for research and engagement, Department of Sociology and Anthropology
- Fernando Garcia Menendez, associate professor, Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering
This achievement reflects NC State’s continued commitment to inter-office collaboration, with several groups working together to advance Fulbright involvement on campus. The University Fellowships Office assists students in their application to Fulbright, while the Office for Faculty Excellence works with faculty scholars.
Together with the Office of Global Engagement, these university resources have collaborated to make the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program part of the campus culture. Their initiatives include interview assistance for students, dedicated websites communicating resources and supportive university policies, and the Fulbright Pathfinder mini-grant program for faculty, offering the opportunity to travel to a potential host institution prior to applying.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international academic exchange program. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research abroad. Fulbright Scholars exchange ideas, build people-to-people connections and work to address complex global challenges.
