Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Provost’s Office corollary units have continued to support NC State’s world-class academics and provide resources for the development of students, faculty and staff. We spoke to representatives from some of these units to gain insight into how they’ve adjusted over the past six months.

Meet the 2020-2021 Provost’s Faculty Fellows
The Provost’s Faculty Fellows Program has selected a second cohort of talented faculty to explore academic leadership roles at the university’s highest levels. Four Fellows will embark on specific projects throughout the 2020-2021 academic year, with mentorship provided by senior administrative officials.
Pack Hacks for Faculty: Compassion and Understanding in Online Teaching and Learning
This month, Angie Smith, associate teaching professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Human Development in the College of Education, provides insight into adjusting to online teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Strategic Plan Task Force Reports Now Available
NC State’s strategic planning process moves forward again, with all nine strategic plan task force reports posted on individual task force websites. The campus community can review reports and provide feedback to the Strategic Planning Executive Steering Committee through Monday, September 21.
From Provost Arden: Adjustments to Fall 2020 Academic Calendar
In this memo, Provost Arden announces to instructors of record that the fall 2020 academic calendar is being adjusted to provide students the time needed to prepare to move off-campus. He is aware of the additional challenges created by the calendar change and appreciates instructors work and ongoing support of their students, and asks that they consider ways to provide flexibility with assignments and due dates where possible.
Nominations for 2020-21 Faculty Awards Sought
Nominations are now open for seven awards for NC State faculty members. This year’s nomination submission deadlines have been moved up a few weeks earlier than normal in order to accommodate the change in the fall semester calendar, and to provide departments and colleges ample time to prepare nominations.
From Provost Arden: Shift to Remote Instruction for Remainder of Fall 2020 Semester
In this memo, Provost Arden announces to faculty that as of 8 a.m. on Monday, August 24, NC State will be moving all undergraduate instruction that is not already online to a remote instruction format, and that graduate courses will remain in their existing format. The Office of Faculty Development and DELTA have created a tip sheet for faculty in light of this transition.

August marks the start of an academic year that no one could have imagined this past spring. In spite of all the unknowns and uncertainties, the campus community came in ways we haven’t seen before.
