3 Vice Provost Units To Be Restructured and Renamed

Wolf Plaza on a late spring day.

Three NC State vice provost units will be restructured and renamed in order to better align their functions and titles, effective July 1. Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden made the announcement today.

Institutional Effectiveness

To align with best practices for supporting university excellence and continuous improvement, the Office of Assessment and Accreditation will become Institutional Effectiveness, with the university’s strategic planning efforts moving from Institutional Strategy and Analysis to the Institutional Effectiveness unit. Additionally, General Education Assessment efforts will move from the Division of Academic and Student Affairs to Institutional Effectiveness. As part of this change, Vice Provost for Assessment and Accreditation Fashaad Crawford will become the senior vice provost for institutional effectiveness. Crawford has been in his current position since 2019 and naming him as a senior vice provost acknowledges the increasing scope, complexity and impact of his role and unit at the university.

University Data and Analytics

To reflect the increased emphasis that NC State has placed on data and analytics as a university business function, including the development of framework and operating models for university data governance, institutional analytics and analytics enablement, Institutional Strategy and Analysis will become University Data and Analytics. As part of this transition, Interim Vice Provost for Institutional Strategy and Analysis McKinney Austin will become the interim vice provost for university data and analytics.

Office of Academic Strategy, Innovation and Solutions

To emphasize its important role in academic strategy, transformation and implementation, the Office of Instructional Programs will become the Office of Academic Strategy, Innovation and Solutions. Senior Vice Provost for Instructional Programs Helen Chen will become the senior vice provost for academic strategy and innovation. The current reporting units—including NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education (NCSCaLE), Digital Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA), the Institute for Advanced Analytics, the Peter A. Pappas Real Estate Development Program and other core academic planning and operational functions—will remain within the renamed office.

While all aforementioned changes are effective July 1, unit names will be updated throughout the summer in campus systems and on relevant websites. If you have any questions about these changes, please contact unit leadership directly.
