Information and resources to help you transition to new course materials program

Copper wolf outside among greenery

Dear faculty colleagues –

NC State is launching the new Course Ready program in spring 2025, offering all degree-seeking undergraduate students affordable, flat-rate, digital-first access to their course materials on the first day of class. This program addresses growing concerns around affordability and helps students and their families better anticipate the costs of course materials.

Full-time students will pay $279/semester, while part-time students will pay $179/semester.

Course Ready has many benefits to our faculty.

  • Faculty retain full academic freedom under this program. Whether assigning paid publisher content or free and open educational resources (OER), textbooks remain available for adoption. Only required titles are included in the program.
  • Digital course materials will be provided through Moodle, however, the process for adopting course materials remains unchanged. Faculty are not required to use Moodle for instructional purposes. While students will initially access digital materials directly through Moodle, faculty are not required to use Moodle for instructional purposes.
  • The cost is based on full-time and part-time status, rather than on individual classes.

Additional details, including a video and FAQ for both faculty and students, can be found at shop.ncsu.edu/course-ready.

Within the next few days, faculty will receive an email from Wolfpack Outfitters with additional information on submitting course materials by Oct. 31, 2024. In addition, they are offering several information sessions:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 1, 12-12:45 p.m. | join here (passcode: 355116)
  • Thursday, Oct. 3, 10-10:45 a.m. | join here (passcode: 230490)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2-2:45 p.m. | join here (passcode: 523194)

If you need one-on-one assistance or your department would benefit from a presentation by the Wolfpack Outfitters team, email courseready@ncsu.edu

Thank you for supporting our new Course Ready program. Our efforts help improve the affordability and accessibility of course materials by setting one predictable cost for students. The program also strongly supports faculty academic freedom in their choice of instructional materials.

Sincerely,

Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
