GOHA Announces Fall 2025 Graduate Travel Awardees

The Global One Health Academy is excited to announce the recipients for the Fall 2025 Graduate Travel Awards to support international or domestic travel that advances global One Health-related research. Two eligible NC State graduate students were awarded funding for travel occurring July through December 2025. Congratulations to our awardees!
Cornelius Ojo

Design (Disaster Resilient Policy, Planning, and Design) | College of Design
Destination: Broomfield, Colorado
Purpose: 50th Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop
Cornelius Ojo is a second year PhD student from the College of Design under the supervision of Dr. Traci Rider. His research explores the long-term health impacts of policy change prompted by opportunity windows that emerge in the wake of disruptive events (particularly Hurricanes) in routinely-disrupted environments. He is developing a coherence-based framework that centers survivors’ lived experiences within the built environment shaped by these policies, positioning them as a reliable base for assessing post-disaster redevelopment policy success.
Barrett Rose

Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences | College of Sciences
Destination: Galapagos archipelago
Purpose: Attend the Biodiversity on a Changing Planet Program Cruise
Barrett Rose is a first year Masters student in the Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Science (MEAS) department at NC State. Barrett earned her Bachelors from MEAS and gained experience as a research technician before enrolling in the graduate program working with Dr. Astrid Schnetzer in the Plankton Ecology Lab. Her research focuses on the spatial and temporal dynamics of Harmful Algal Blooms. She aims to advance our understanding of the connections between the environment, algal activity, and animal and human health in both freshwater and marine systems. Her work has included studying both algal dynamics and food web accumulation of toxins in relation to anthropogenic drivers, both short-term and long-term processes such as river discharge events and climate change. Barrett is excited to be working with the Global One Health Academy with the major goal of improving the health of our ecosystems and human society in North Carolina and beyond!
