Introducing Students for the Advancement of Global One Health

The Global One Health Academy is proud to support a new undergraduate club in Global One Health – Students for the Advancement of Global One Health! This club will be led by a team of enthusiastic one health undergraduate students and overseen by GOHA’s Director of Undergraduate Programs, Kristen Sullivan.

Background

Students for the Advancement of Global One Health aims to foster interdisciplinary education and action amongst students and the surrounding community aligning with Global One Health principles. Global One Health is defined by the World Health Organization as “an integrated, unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems.” Global One Health aims to solve many of the world’s most pressing problems through the collaboration between people from all walks of life who want to make a difference, no matter how big or small. Change starts with us, and at NC State, the Students for the Advancement of Global One Health gathers like-minded individuals to start conversations about these problems and come up with real solutions focused on key One Health issues, including addressing climate change and health disparities, driving food and water solutions, and combating infectious diseases. This organization will engage with these issues through regular club meetings, external events, and collaboration with community members.”

Goal & Purpose

We want to create a space where members of NC State can come to learn about the urgent world problems that affect the well-being and balance of humans, animals, and the environment. Engaging in conversations, group projects, community outreach, and listening to leaders who are currently working on solutions are just some of the ways we plan to invite NC State students and community members to think critically about solutions and how they can participate in efforts to advance the goals of One Health. We welcome everyone to participate by sharing their ideas and learning from others. One of our main goals is to foster a greater sense of understanding and collaboration between students from different majors, interests, career aspirations, and more, demonstrating the value of inspiring each other across disciplines. We truly hope to have all of NC State’s colleges represented among our organization’s members and look forward to new and interesting dialogues taking place.
