Vice Provost For Institutional Equity And Diversity Joanne Woodard To Leave NC State

Announcement by Provost Arden:

It is with mixed emotions that I tell you that Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity Joanne Woodard is leaving NC State to become the new vice president for diversity and inclusion at the University of North Texas this summer.

Joanne has been an outstanding champion for equity and diversity throughout her 27-year career at NC State. She joined the University initially as a faculty member in the Department of History teaching undergraduate courses in U.S. and African American History and, in 1997, became vice provost for equal opportunity and equity. As a result of NC State’s strategic restructuring and realignment in 2011, Joanne became vice provost for institutional equity and diversity, successfully uniting the Office of Equal Opportunity and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion into the new Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity.

Joanne’s most noteworthy initiatives include the award-winning Equal Opportunity Institute, creation of the campus National Coalition Building Institute team and the Building Bridges workshops, and successfully assembling a talented team of professionals to forge an equity and diversity office whose best practices are worthy of emulation by peer institutions. Through her many efforts, she has truly made NC State a better, more welcoming place for all.

I know you will want to join me in thanking Joanne for her leadership and wishing her and her husband Harold all the best as they prepare for a new adventure in Texas. There will be an opportunity to celebrate her legacy and show our appreciation of her contributions later this semester.
