Five faculty members received the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence, the highest honor bestowed by NC State and the university’s Board of Trustees. Chancellor Randy Woodson will recognize the awardees during an in-person Celebration of Faculty Excellence on May 4. The 2022 honorees are:

The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost recognized five outstanding staff members at the 2022 Provost’s Unit Awards for Excellence on March 24. The University Awards for Excellence represent the NC State’s highest honor for non-faculty members. Each nominee demonstrated excellence in one of the following areas: customer service, efficiency and innovation, human relations, outstanding state government service, public service, safety and heroism, and the spirit of North Carolina.

Senior Vice Provost for University Interdisciplinary Programs search: The nomination committee met on March 28 and identified a competitive group of candidates for first-round interviews, which are taking place this week and next. The committee will make a recommendation to the provost following those interviews on two to four candidates for in-person finalist interviews during the weeks of May 2 and May 9. Faculty Learning Communities (FLC) Faculty Fellow: The Faculty Learning Communities (FLC) Faculty Fellow will participate in the planning, implementation, operation, and assessment of a comprehensive program to create Faculty Learning Communities for NC State faculty, in conjunction with the Executive Director and other Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE) staff. The position is a .50 FTE buyout of a current NC State faculty member’s time. Will consider faculty with either 9 or 12 month appointments. There is potential for additional compensation for the summer effort of a 9-month faculty.

The Office of Global Engagement has announced the recipients of the 2022-2023 Internationalization Seed Grants. These grants — up to $5,000 per grant — help promote international partnerships and foster global scholarship and engagement. Seed grant recipients further strategic and deliberate collaborations that lead to the development of joint research proposals, student mobility programs, courses involving COIL, adjunct appointments and other scholarly activities.
As a land-grant university, NC State has as its mission the essential function of improving life for all North Carolinians. The Intensive English Program (IEP), a subunit of the Office of Global Engagement created in 2011, does just that by helping to internationalize undergraduate departments on campus. The fifth annual International Festival highlights NC State’s diversity and multiculturalism. The International Festival is a partnership event supported by the Office of International Services, the Office of Global Engagement, Student Government, Student Leadership and Engagement, and Multicultural Student Affairs. This year, the International Festival brought together over 350 students, staff, faculty and community members who were encouraged to interact with over 15 cultural booths hosted by students and campus departments/organizations. Participants received “boarding passes” to collect stamps from different booths to be exchanged for t-shirts or snack boxes containing snack food from around the globe.
From March 14-24, over 400 faculty, staff and students from the universities of the University of Surrey (U.K.), University of Wollongong (Australia), the Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil) and NC State participated in this year’s virtual 2022 University Global Partnership Network (UGPN) conference. Senior Vice Provost, Dr. Bailian Li, was the chair of this year’s conference which discussed the big picture of how UGPN partnerships can make a difference to sustainability in research and education. The AY20-21 reports and dashboards for the NC State Graduate Future Plans Survey are now available onthe ISA website. The Graduate Future Plans Survey (administered every December and May) and the follow-up Graduate Survey of Recent Graduates (administered every September) collect information on master’s and doctoral degree recipients’ plans following graduation, including detailed information on employment characteristics and salary, the job search, graduate/professional school attendance, and participation in career-related activities while at NC State. The “Fast Facts” reports highlight key results from the survey, while the Introduction and Methodology Report provides an overview of the survey administration. TheAY20-21 GFPS Overview Dashboard contains interactive graphs and tables on employment, the job search, compensation, graduate/professional school attendance, career preparation activities, and overall satisfaction with the graduate experience. NC State unity users with applicable permissions also have access to a version of the Overview Dashboard and aCollege Comparisons Dashboard that contains filters for breakouts by degree, college, department, and academic plan of study.
