Faculty must be recognized by the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost as an Outstanding Teacher before they can be eligible to be nominated for the Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How are Faculty Nominated?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nominations originate within a faculty\u2019s department, and the nomination process may vary slightly by department.\u00a0 Departmental nominee(s) are forwarded to the college award committee for consideration. \u00a0After the college committee makes its selection(s), it will submit the nomination or nominations by\u00a0<strong>the university determined due date.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#top\">top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"eligibility-and-criteria\"><strong>Eligibility and Criteria<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be considered for the Outstanding Teacher Award, the faculty nominee must be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>full-time faculty (.75 FTE or greater)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>faculty in the tenure track or the following professional tracks:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>teaching<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>clinical<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>extension<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lecturer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>field faculty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the faculty nominee must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have taught 15 student credit hours at NC&#160;State (excluding summer sessions)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have not been an Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award recipient in the three academic years preceding the academic year of nomination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be teaching during the academic year of nomination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nomination Caps Per College<\/strong> 2025-26<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agriculture and Life Sciences \u2013 2<br>Design \u2013 1<br>Education \u2013 1<br>Engineering \u2013 3<br>Humanities and Social Sciences \u2013 1 <br>Natural Resources \u2013 1<br>Poole College of Management \u2013 2<br>Sciences \u2013 2<br>Textiles \u2013 1<br>University College \u2013 1<br>Veterinary Medicine \u2013 1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#top\">top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"recognition-and-award\"><strong>Recognition and Award<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recipients of the Outstanding Teacher Award become members of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers and are recognized at the University Teaching Awards Luncheon and in NC&#160;State media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Additional Recognition by the Alumni Association<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Provost\u2019s Administrative Advisory Committee recommends a subset of Outstanding Teacher Award nominees for consideration by the NC&#160;State Alumni Association to be named Alumni Outstanding Teacher.&nbsp; Upon confirmation, they will be recognized at an Alumni Association event and receive a cash award of $1,000.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of Alumni Outstanding Teacher recipients may vary depending upon funding availability from the Alumni Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#top\">top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Renomination<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A nomination may be resubmitted for the next award cycle even if the nominee has been previously selected as a recipient of this award. <strong>Renominations are not automatic<\/strong>. They must be resubmitted with updates that reflect the current year of nomination, confirmation of continued support from the writers of support letters, and any information regarding awards, accolades, projects, publications, or other activities completed after the submission of last year\u2019s nominations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"deadline\"><strong>Nomination Submission Deadline<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Nomination Deadline for the 2026-2027 Academic Year: To Be Determined<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nomination Package Submission<br>Required Documents<br><\/strong>Please create PDF files for each document contained in the nomination package<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Current CV. &nbsp;<strong>Limit 25 pages<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brief statement articulating the nominee\u2019s contributions to the teaching mission of the university and teaching philosophy.&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;Limit&nbsp;2 pages<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Samples of course materials (such as excerpts from syllabi, assignments, projects, exams, student portfolios, or other evidence of student learning outcome) or documentation of teaching-related activities such as leadership related to teaching and learning or continuing professional development (workshops, institutes, etc.).&nbsp;<strong>Limit 4-8 pages<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A narrative summarizing the results from student end-of-course evaluations over the past two years. This may include personal observations, class evaluation data, and student comments. <strong>Limit<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>3 pages<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Semesters to include for the 2025-26 cycle: Fall 2023, Spring 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student comments should be included only in this document.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summaries of two most current peer evaluations<strong>.<\/strong> <strong>Limit 4 pages<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letters of support from two peers.&nbsp;<strong>1 page for each letter<\/strong>, <strong>submitted as one combined pdf<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letters of support from two students.&nbsp;<strong style=\"font-weight: bold\">1 page for each letter<\/strong><b>, s<\/b><strong><strong>ubmitted as one combined pdf.<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Required nominee information. Use this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/provost.ncsu.edu\/ofe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/07\/OTA_nomination_worksheet.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/provost.ncsu.edu\/ofe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/07\/OTA_nomination_worksheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">submission worksheet<\/a>&nbsp;as a guide to prepare for online submission.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Please note:<\/strong><\/em><br>Historically, in past award cycles, the Provost\u2019s Administrative Advisory Committee has recognized that the most competitive nomination applications fully comply with the submission of all the required documents and that among those documents the following specifics should be adhered to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Student course evaluations that include numerical ratings and a selection of student comments are also appreciated. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support letters from peers and students are most helpful to the committee when they contain specific examples of the nominee\u2019s teaching practices or specific examples of the impact of the nominee\u2019s teaching on his or her students, departmental colleagues, or disciplines. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teaching Mission Statements are most helpful to the committee when they describe the nominee\u2019s values and approach regarding teaching and describe how the nominee reflects on and continuously improves her or his teaching practices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nomination Package Submission Process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Each college has a limited number of nominees.
