Each year, the competition launches in February and accepts applications until September 16. There are over 470 unique awards available that offer 800 scholars and professionals the opportunity to teach and research in 143 different countries. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"\">Below we offer some tips that will help you prepare for the upcoming competition.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"\">Sign up with <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cies2.org\/s\/1064\/index.aspx\"><span style=\"\">MyFulbright<\/span><\/a><span style=\"\"> to register your interest and receive important notifications about the program.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"\">Learn about the program by watching an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cies.org\/event-type\/webinar-schedule?qt-upcoming_event_type=1#qt-upcoming_event_type\"><span style=\"\">archived webinar.<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"\">Consider whether you\u2019d like to teach, conduct research, or pursue a combination of teaching and research during your grant. This will help you narrow down the hundreds of opportunities listed in the Catalog of Awards.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"\">Peruse the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/awards.cies.org\/\"><span style=\"\">Catalog of Awards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"\"> to get an idea of what is offered and where. You may search according to discipline, region, country, career level, grant length, and more. Remember, you may apply to only one award!<\/span><span style=\"\">Research possible host institutions\/collaborators abroad (if one is not listed in the award description) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cies.org\/letters-invitation-developing-contacts-abroad\"><span style=\"\">start developing contacts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"\">.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"\">Attend a local Fulbright Scholar <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cies.org\/conferences-and-workshops\"><span style=\"\">workshop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"\">.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"\">Discuss your interest in Fulbright with your dean or department chair and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cies.org\/scholar-liaison-network\"><span style=\"\">Fulbright Scholar Liaison<\/span><\/a><span style=\"\"> on your campus. It may also be helpful to reach out to Fulbright alumni at your institution (find them in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cies.org\/fulbright-scholars\"><span style=\"\">Fulbright Scholar Directory<\/span><\/a><span style=\"\">)<\/span><span style=\"\"> to learn about their application experience and sabbatical arrangements during their grant.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"\">Shortlist 3-5 colleagues you would ask for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cies.org\/reference-letters\"><span style=\"\">letters of reference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"\">.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"\">Share your proposal draft with colleagues within and outside of your discipline for feedback. It is important that academics outside your discipline can understand your project, so make sure to limit your use of discipline-specific jargon.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"\">As you navigate the application process, Fulbright Program staff are available to guide you towards resources and provide 1-on-1 advising.
