So what does it take to be award ready?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"block-47bd7033-97e8-4ca4-82c6-5b57964ee9c0\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Familiarize yourself with the nomination and application <strong>process<\/strong> for an award well before the deadline so that you can plan accordingly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check <strong>eligibility requirements<\/strong> in advance, including membership requirements. Many awards granted by societies and professional organizations require continuous active membership. Remember to maintain your professional memberships.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a culture that supports awards within your department. <strong>Nominate your colleagues for awards<\/strong> and alert them to awards that seem appropriate based on expertise. An environment that supports the awards process is beneficial for all involved.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Serve on an awards committee<\/strong> within your department or form a committee if one does not already exist. Polished applications benefit from peer review. Serving on an awards committee not only helps to create a culture around awards, it offers you a new perspective on the process and gives you the benefit of reviewing other applications from an \u201cinsider\u2019s view.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strategically think about how awards fit into your <strong>career map<\/strong>. When preparing your career plan, include awards in your career map. This can create useful goals and can help you to start thinking about a tentative pipeline to honorific awards and memberships.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Create a calendar of awards<\/strong> on a yearly basis. It is a good practice to start the application process two to three months in advance of the deadline.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet with the Director of External Faculty Recognition to plan for your future awards. Application packets are most competitive when planned for in advance. Being award ready means strategizing.
