February 2022 Provost’s Corner

Provost Warwick Arden

Dear faculty and staff,

Though we’re in the midst of the shortest month of the year, we’re certainly not short on activity here at NC State.

This month, we celebrate Black History Month, recognizing the contributions of Black Americans to both NC State and the entire country. This year’s theme — “The Freedom to Dream – Re-Rooting, Re-imagining, and Reconnecting Our Black Communities” — focuses on student connection and community building. A variety of virtual and in-person activities promote cultural exploration, learning, social connection and community building.

We’ve experienced other exciting happenings on campus, including the recent launch of our Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs, along with the announcement of our Integrative Sciences Initiative and Building, which will change the way we do science at NC State. We learned that Hollylynne Lee was named the 2022 recipient of Baylor University’s Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching. Additionally, we named 23 NC State faculty 2021-22 University Faculty Scholars.

At NC State, we’re not just thinking and doing — we’re setting an example of excellence in higher education, an example for our peers to follow. All of this is thanks to your individual and collective efforts to teach, research, innovate and serve others, and I am proud to work alongside you.

Until next time,
Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
