November 2020 Provost’s Corner

Provost Warwick Arden

Dear faculty and staff,

The end of the fall 2020 semester is drawing near, but there’s still plenty of activity taking place. We’re in the middle of a different, yet quite exciting, Red and White Week. Even with most events being held virtually, the week captures everything our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends hold dear about NC State.

There is so much to be proud of during our annual homecoming, and here are just a few examples from the Chancellor’s Fall Address: NC State is ranked in the top 1% of all universities globally by the Center for World University Rankings. This year, we’ve garnered 398 million dollars in new sponsored research awards and 1.4 billion dollars in research proposals. Our faculty and staff are involved in nearly two dozen research projects combating COVID-19.

And next month, we’ll be celebrating our 2020 graduates with NC State’s first virtual commencement ceremony. This special event will stream on Friday, December 4, 2020, at 6 p.m. EST. I hope you’ll join us in recognizing our outstanding graduates – your hard work and commitment make their success possible.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I’m reminded of how truly grateful I am for each and every one of you. Throughout the year, you’ve shown a remarkable Think and Do spirit that carries us through even the toughest of times.

I encourage each one of you to take time to rest and reflect during this start of the holiday season, and I hope that we can continue to work together to achieve a shared vision of growth and success.

Until next time,
Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
