October 2020 Provost’s Corner

Provost Warwick Arden

Dear faculty and staff,

As we move into another month of online instruction, it is important now more than ever that we find ways to stay connected while we’re apart. Faculty, staff and students are feeling the impacts of being removed from campus both physically and mentally.

I encourage you to continue to reach out to your colleagues and students; to check on one another and show that we are a Wolfpack family. Mindful Mondays and Wolf Chat Wednesdays are a few of the many great ways NC State is helping us stay connected virtually.

If you know a student in need of help, please encourage them to reach out to the NC State Counseling Center; faculty and staff may reach out to the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FASAP). FASAP is a confidential service that provides support, resources and information for personal and work-life issues.

Please also keep in mind our staff who have been impacted by recent furloughs in light of the financial impacts of COVID-19. Human Resources has put together helpful information on temporary furloughs and salary reductions.

We are striving to put measures in place to bring back these staff members in a timely and effective manner. I want you all to be and do well during this difficult time, and know that there are people and resources out there to help.

Looking forward to next semester, we plan on providing on-campus housing at reduced capacity, and keeping housing open throughout the semester. We will also be hosting a virtual commencement ceremony December 4.

As always, I am very thankful for the outstanding work of faculty and staff in making NC State a top-notch university. In the coming weeks and months, I hope that we can continue to work together to return to campus; until then, let’s continue to care for one another any way we can.

Until next time,
Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
