  • The NC State Faculty and Staff Ombuds, Roy Baroff, is holding a “Summer Coffee Hour” (10 – 11 a.m.) on the last Wednesday of the month in June and July. Join Roy for a cup of coffee to learn about ombuds services, to just say hello or help Roy learn more about working at NC State. Look for the sign “The Ombuds is In.” Here are the details (all times are 10 – 11 a.m.):
    • Wednesday, June 26 – Port City Java – College of Veterinary Medicine
    • Wednesday, July 31 – Port City – College of Textiles (Centennial Campus)
  • NC State faculty and staff we want to tell the campus community about your summer travel, research, community engagement and more in the August 2019 Provost’s Office newsletter. If you’re interested in participating, please send a paragraph description of your summer adventures, along with a high-resolution photo and your name/position/department to provost-communications@ncsu.edu by August 9.
  • An open search for the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration is underway, with Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden chairing the nomination committee. NC State is looking for an experienced and innovative executive leader to guide the direction of finance and administration. The university also seeks to attract and review a diverse candidate pool.   • Save the date! Packapalooza is back Saturday, August 24 from 2-10 p.m. on Hillsborough Street. This festival kicking off the fall semester includes Pack Pride, Service, Play, Arts and Wolfpack zones, along with food vendors, games, prizes, music and more.   • Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah is NC State’s 2019 Common Reading Program selection. Copies of Born a Crime, chosen by the students, faculty and staff on the Common Reading Selection Committee, will be distributed to all first-year students during New Student Orientation prior to the fall semester. Themes from Born a Crime will also be the focus of New Student Convocation on Monday, August 19, to be held at Reynolds Coliseum to welcome the Class of 2023.   • After seven years of leadership, Dr. Mary Watzin will step down as dean of the College of Natural Resources, effective August 16. This fall, Watzin will be on scholarly reassignment within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, working primarily to coordinate a campus-wide initiative in coastal resilience and sustainability. In spring 2020, she will join the faculty of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources while continuing to coordinate the interdisciplinary coastal initiative.
  • Mark Bernhard, associate provost for outreach and engagement at the University of Southern Indiana, has been named vice provost for continuing education, effective August 26. Bernhard will replace interim vice provost Chip Futrell, who will resume his role as director of continuing and professional education.
  • The August Staff Senate meeting will be held Wednesday, August 7 from 10 a.m.-noon in TSU 4140 Senate Chambers. The meeting will feature a presentation on Wolftime. All Staff Senate meetings are open to anyone to attend. If you are not able to attend, you can submit your concerns online directly to Wolftime.   • The Office of Global Engagement hosted Global Partners Day on May 24. Representatives from partner universities experienced NC State through a diverse program highlighting opportunities for increased student mobility, innovative models for collaboration, exploring our world-class facilities, and all the ways the university supports faculty, students, and staff in partnership. Universities represented included: Vienna University of Business and Economics (Vienna, Austria), Universidad Adolfo Ibañez (Santiago, Chile), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai, China), Universidad de Manizales (Caldas, Colombia), Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia), Czech Technical University in Prague (Prague, Czech Republic), University of Copenhagen (Copenhagen, Denmark), University of Freiburg (Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany), Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences (Uppsala, Sweden), Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok, Thailand), University of Manchester (Manchester, England), and University of Surrey (Guildford, England).

From NC State DELTA:

  • Save the Date for DELTA’s Summer Shorts 2019! Summer Shorts will begin August 12 with face-to-face sessions at the McKimmon Center. Online sessions will be held August 13 in Zoom. A WolfWare Boot Camp will take place August 14 at the Avent Ferry Technology Center, and the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) workshop will be held August 15 at CTI. Summer Shorts focuses on leveraging innovative online teaching strategies and NC State learning technologies to improve student success. Registration opens July 8. Learn more about Summer Shorts.
