April 2019 Provost’s Corner
Dear faculty and staff,
We’re quickly coming to the close of the 2018-19 academic year. Exams and commencement are right around the corner, but in all the busyness, let’s take a moment to reflect on recent happenings in the university community.
We are all saddened by the recent loss of Susan Nutter, who led the NC State University Libraries for 30 years, and set a standard of excellence we should all strive to reach. She will be dearly missed, but her legacy lives on through her outstanding contributions to NC State and the community.
NC State’s first Day of Giving was held on March 27. Faculty, staff and students played a great role in helping raise more than $13 million, which will go a long way in furthering our academic excellence and student success.
We also announced this year’s University Teaching Awards on April 11. Patrick Rand received the University of North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching, the most prestigious award given to faculty for teaching excellence. Nearly 30 other faculty were also honored with the Gertrude Cox Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology, the Outstanding Teacher Award and the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award. Additionally, the Outreach and Engagement Awards ceremony, held April 12, recognized 12 faculty and staff members for their commitment to teaching, research and public service.
These achievements make a strong statement about our campus community. We’re committed to comprehensive excellence and we achieve that with our Think and Do spirit.
As we move into summer, let’s work to keep the momentum going. I look forward to continuing to share more about your impact on NC State.
