Provost’s Corner: November 2017

Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick A. Arden

Dear faculty and staff,

With the end of the semester quickly approaching, I’m humbled by your many accomplishments over the past four months. Your steadfast commitment to our mission and the university’s strategic plan elevates NC State’s academic reputation and global impact.

We’re celebrating this impact and more with Global Entrepreneurship Week. I’m excited to see our continued growth in this area, especially with the dedication of the NC State European Center in Prague. The only permanent year-round international facility that welcomes both students and faculty, NC State Prague expertly supports our education and outreach goals. The university’s gateway to Europe provides the campus community and partners with the keys to enriching our international education and collaboration efforts.

In light of this initiative and thanks to your hard work, I’m excited to share that earlier this week NC State was ranked by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine as a “Top 25 Best Undergrad Programs for Entrepreneurs in 2018,” coming in at no. 19 on the list. This tremendous honor showcases the myriad ways we Think and Do on campus that support a growing global economy. One notable effort is our recently launched website that helps students, faculty and external partners engage in the many unique entrepreneurial opportunities NC State offers.

November also marks International Education Month, another area in which NC State excels. NC State Global is hosting an array of events designed to recognize our connections around the world. Check out the full schedule of events for the next few weeks.

Of course, I can’t forget to mention the sustained success of the Campaign for NC State, thanks in large part to our outstanding faculty. It was exciting to see the university’s and our donor’s focus on faculty at the recent Red and White Night Gala. Faculty at NC State set a standard for our peers to emulate. They allow us to achieve student success, superior scholarship, research accolades and global recognition.

There are many more noteworthy achievements that have taken place over the course of the semester. To learn more about our phenomenal faculty, how NC State invests in success and shapes the future, and how we all Think and Do the Extraordinary, view the 2017 Chancellor’s Report.

Until next time,

Warwick Arden
