Memorial Belltower

NC State University announced today that the university will host the 2020 Science Olympiad National Tournament, to be held May 13-16, 2020, on NC State’s campus.

The event will feature more than 2,000 of the country’s brightest middle and high school students converging in Raleigh to compete in one of the premier science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) competitions in the country. The tournament will attract thousands of visitors, educators, parents and family members, and current and past Olympiad participants to the Research Triangle.

“We are very excited to host this prestigious tournament, which uniquely combines active learning with competition,” said Kim Gervase, executive director of the North Carolina Science Olympiad in the Science House at NC State. “We are looking forward to working with our industry partners, students and all of our colleges across campus to provide a great experience for the students and showcase North Carolina and NC State.”

The North Carolina Science Olympiad program seeks to attract and retain the pool of K-12 students entering STEM degrees and careers in North Carolina. North Carolina has the second-largest Science Olympiad program in the country, with more than 18,000 students on 990 K-12 teams participating in almost every county of the state. Each spring, the program hosts regional and statewide tournaments, with the top-placing middle- and high-school teams advancing to the national competition.

Early partners include Cisco, BASF and SAS. For more information about the event, please contact Kim Gervase at kdgervas@ncsu.edu.
