Off-campus Instructional Sites
SACSCOC Definition
An off-campus instructional site is a teaching site located geographically apart from the main campus. A site at which an institution provides electronic delivery and where students go to access the support services needed is also considered an off-campus instructional site. The site is not independent of the institution’s main campus.
Process for Establishing an Off-campus Site
Any department planning to offer a degree or certificate program at an off-campus instructional site will notify the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost prior to implementation.
Notifications will include the following:
- Name of the program to be offered
- Will the program be offered at a new off-campus site? (if yes, answer the following)
- Will a student be able to earn 50 percent or more of program credits at the site?
- Will a student be able to earn 25 to 49 percent of program credits at the site?
- Will the program be offered at an existing off-campus site? (if yes, answer the following)
- Does the program represent a significant departure from previously approved programs?
- Name and address of the location where instruction will be provided
- List of courses and programs to be taught at this location
- The semester when instruction is to begin at the site*
IMPORTANT NOTE: Establishing a new off-campus site is a substantive change and SACSCOC must be notified at least six months before anything is to be implemented.
Process for Discontinuing an Off-campus Site
The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost is responsible for maintaining a list of current off-campus instructional sites. Proper notification is essential for institutional effectiveness and is required for compliance with SACSCOC. As such, departments planning to discontinue the use of an off-campus instructional site will notify the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost prior to the closure of the site.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Discontinuing an existing off-campus site is a substantive change and SACSCOC must be notified at least six months before anything is to be implemented.
