The Global One Health Academy is excited to announce the recipients for the Spring 2025 <\/em>Graduate Travel Awards<\/em><\/a> to support international or domestic travel that advances global One Health-related research. Three eligible NC State graduate students were awarded funding for travel occurring January through June 2025. Congratulations to our awardees!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Lindsay Curl<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences | College of Sciences
Destination<\/strong>: Accra, Ghana
Purpose<\/strong>: Attend 43rd International Sea Turtle Symposium<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lindsay is originally from a small town of 700 people in rural Kansas. Currently, as a Ph.D. student, Lindsay is interested in studying seagrass species interactions, seagrass restoration, microplastic accumulation, and green sea turtle diet composition. She received her B.S. in Biology from Kansas State University and her M.S. from the University of West Florida where she assessed microplastic contamination in loggerhead sea turtle eggs. She served in Zambia for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer and has obtained her PADI Scuba Divemaster. Lindsay’s future plan is to become a faculty professor to teach students and conduct research.<\/p>\n\n\n

Lifespan Developmental Psychology | College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Destination<\/strong>: West Bengal, India
Purpose<\/strong>: Data collection as part of dissertation and the Subjective AGES consortium, a global initiative exploring the relationship between subjective aging, daily experiences, and health across countries such as the United States, Turkiye, Germany, China, Israel, Ukraine, Canada, and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shalini is a third-year doctoral candidate in the Lifespan Developmental Psychology program at NC State University. She works in the Daily Well-Being in Adulthood Lab under the guidance of Dr. Shevaun D. Neupert. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Health Psychology from the University of Hyderabad, India. Her research focuses on subjective aging, health, and well-being, particularly examining how environmental, social, and cognitive factors influence daily aging experiences. She is also interested in human-plant and human-animal interactions, and its bidirectional relationship with daily subjective aging. The Graduate Travel Award from the Global One Health Academy will support data collection for her research in West Bengal, India.<\/p>\n\n\n

Forestry and Environmental Resources | College of Natural Resources
Destination<\/strong>: Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Bharatpur, Nepal
Purpose<\/strong>: Data collection to explore urban greening as a nature based solution in the three major metropolitan areas in Nepal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shila is a first-year PhD student in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, working under the mentorship of Dr. Rajan Parajuli. Her research focuses on urban green spaces in Nepal’s three metropolitan cities: Kathmandu, Bharatpur, and Pokhara. Through this study, she aims to evaluate the spatiotemporal changes in these urban green spaces, explore the perspectives of diverse stakeholders, and examine the existing policies and aspects of environmental justice. This research intends to support the Government of Nepal in future urban planning and development initiatives. Before joining NCSU, Shila served as a Forest Officer for over five years with the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Government of Nepal. She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in forestry from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and a Master\u2019s in Natural Resources Management from Pokhara University, Nepal. Recently, she completed another master\u2019s degree in forestry at NC State University, where her research focused on the impacts of climate change on urban and community forestry in California.<\/p>\n","protected":false,"raw":"\n
