Indigenous Perspectives in Planetary Health
Join SAGOH for a thought-provoking Earth Day panel exploring the intersection of Indigenous knowledge and planetary health. This dynamic conversation will bring together scholars, educators, and practitioners whose work spans ecology, policy, public health, environmental history, and ethnobotany. Together, they will reflect on how Indigenous ways of knowing have long informed approaches to living in balance with the natural world, and how these perspectives are being recognized, reinterpreted, and sometimes overlooked in modern scientific and health frameworks.
Panelists will share insights from their personal and professional journeys, discussing the challenges and opportunities of working across disciplines, uplifting Indigenous voices, and addressing health disparities in historically underserved communities. The discussion will also examine the rise of terms like “Planetary Health” and “One Health,” unpacking their impact and considering how to responsibly honor the origins of these ideas while advancing collaborative solutions.
Designed as an open, conversational forum, this event invites attendees to engage with complex questions around equity, knowledge-sharing, and the future of environmental and human health. Whether you’re a student, researcher, or community member, this is an opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect on how we can collectively support a just and sustainable future.
The panel will take place on NC State’s campus in Park Shops 201 from 6:00–7:30 pm. Snacks will be provided, and all are welcome!”
