Post-Tenure Review

Review Guidelines

Every tenured faculty member shall be reviewed through the post-tenure review process every five years after having been tenured, with some exceptions. The following guidelines establish procedures for the comprehensive, periodic, cumulative review of the performance of all tenured faculty. Related procedures ensure that post-tenure review is not a re-evaluation of tenure and that it is conducted in a manner that protects academic freedom and the quality of education. NC State rules and regulations regarding post-tenure review are consistent with the requirements of the University of North Carolina system.

Optional Memo Templates

We often receive questions about the post-tenure review process and the expectations for the various assessments and communications required per REG 05.20.04. In response, we have developed memo templates for department post-tenure review committees, department heads, deans, and college post-tenure review committees.

Use of these templates is not required. They are offered here as optional resources.
