Dr. Karenga is Professor of Black Studies at California State University, Long Beach. He is chair of the President's Task Force on Multicultural Education and Campus Diversity at the university.
He is widely known as the creator of Kwanzaa, an African American and Pan-African holiday celebrated throughout the world African community on every continent.
He is author of Kwanzaa: A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture. He lectures regularly and extensively on the vision and values of Kwanzaa, especially on the Nguzo Saba (The Seven Principles).
He holds a Ph.D. from the United States International University. He received his second Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.
