Dr. Collier-Thomas is a Professor of History at Temple University. Her research interests include American women's history, women's activism in 19th and 20th century social and political reform movements, women and religion, the 20th century interracial movement, and African American entertainment.
She is currently working on the first comprehensive history of African American women and the church from 1780-1970. Her work is funded by the Lilly Endowment.
In 1994, she received the Conservation Service Award, one of the highest awards to be given a civilian by the Department of the Interior. This award recognized her development of the Bethune Museum and Archives.
In 1985, President Reagan appointed her to the National Afro-American History and Culture commission.
She received her Ph.D. from George Washington University.
