Textiles Dean Search Suspended; Dr. David Hinks named interim dean
Announcement by Provost Arden:
After consultation with the nomination committee and others, I am suspending the current search for dean of the College of Textiles.
The nomination committee has put a great deal of time and effort into the search process, recently completing a round of off-campus candidate interviews. However, the committee was unable to reach consensus on a cohort of finalists to submit to me for on-campus interviews. I respect the wisdom of the committee and felt it best to put the search on hold for now and restart it in the coming academic year.
While the search may be on hold, the important work of the college is not and, with Dean Blanton Godfrey returning to the faculty at the end of June, I am appointing Dr. David Hinks, Cone Mills Professor of Textile Chemistry and Director of the Forensic Sciences Institute, to serve as interim dean of the College of Textiles, effective July 1, 2014. I know you will do everything you can to support Dr. Hicks in his new role.
I offer my thanks to the nomination committee for the work they’ve done on the college’s behalf, to Dean Godfrey for his 14 years of outstanding service to the college and NC State and to Dr. Hinks for his willingness to lead the college forward in the intervening period.
