Provost Arden to Serve as Interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at UNC General Administration
Effective July 1, Dr. Warwick Arden will begin serving as both NC State provost and as the interim senior vice president for academic affairs at University of North Carolina General Administration (UNC-GA) following the departure of current Senior Vice President Suzanne Ortega, who has been named president of the Council of Graduate Schools in Washington, D.C. UNC President Tom Ross announced Arden’s temporary appointment today during the UNC Board of Governors regular June meeting.
Arden is taking on the system role in addition to his duties as NC State provost, planning to spend some of his time each week in Chapel Hill at UNC-GA and remain in Raleigh the majority of the time. Arden will serve in the interim system appointment while the search for Ortega's permanent replacement is conducted this fall, with the goal of having a new hire in place by January 1.
Reflecting on his recent appointment, Arden said he is looking forward to this opportunity to serve the 17-campus UNC system.
“I see this as an important opportunity to assist the UNC system during this transition and deepen my understanding of system-level processes. I am honored to be able to serve in this capacity and remain committed to continuing the significant progress we've made toward achieving our strategic goals here at NC State.”
